Summary
An RFDS King Air B200 operating a patient transfer flight declared PAN-PAN after the right engine ITT began rising abnormally during climb. The crew reduced right engine power, continued on reduced thrust, and landed at Bathurst Airport. A cracked combustion chamber liner was identified during subsequent inspection.
Investigation Findings (4)
- 01The combustion liner crack was consistent with thermal fatigue after 2,880 cycles.
- 02The crack was below the radiographic detection threshold of the last borescope inspection.
- 03No flight safety impact occurred; the engine was able to operate at reduced power throughout.
- 04RFDS Central Operations updated its inspection protocol to include a fluorescent penetrant check of combustion liners at each 500-hour inspection.
