Summary

An RFDS King Air B200 operating a patient transfer flight declared PAN-PAN after the right engine ITT began rising abnormally during climb. The crew reduced right engine power, continued on reduced thrust, and landed at Bathurst Airport. A cracked combustion chamber liner was identified during subsequent inspection.

Investigation Findings (4)

  1. 01The combustion liner crack was consistent with thermal fatigue after 2,880 cycles.
  2. 02The crack was below the radiographic detection threshold of the last borescope inspection.
  3. 03No flight safety impact occurred; the engine was able to operate at reduced power throughout.
  4. 04RFDS Central Operations updated its inspection protocol to include a fluorescent penetrant check of combustion liners at each 500-hour inspection.
